In order to follow the format of other 12 step programs, teens will NOT identify their personal addictions.
These meetings will involve: discussion about life skills, patterns of addictive behavior, and maximizing personal success.
Teens in high school and/or teens under the age of 18 years, must be told initially that any reference made toward use of an illegal substance means parent notification. By law, facilitators are required to report any behavior that could cause harm to the student or to another individual.
Ultimately, Teen Addiction Anonymous is dedicated to keeping confidentiality for all members as long as these guidelines are followed. Although topics of discussion may include drug and alcohol abuse, teens need to be reminded that personal disclosure of “use” may force the facilitator to break confidentiality. Therefore, personal disclosure needs to be limited to protect the rights of the participants and the professional integrity of the facilitator.
